About Us
Priya's journey is every woman's journey with HIV
In 1999, when Laxmi Priya was diagnosed with HIV while she was pregnant with her child, life paused. Widowed and left with no option but to raise her child all by herself, she started her journey piecing every little support she could find to provide for herself and her little girl.
In 2005, with support from the LEPRA Society in Hyderabad, Priya started Cheyutha as a women’s community initiative to empower women like her living with HIV/AIDS, through mutual support and collective action. To date, Cheyutha’s Board of Directors is composed entirely of HIV-positive womens.

Kalavati's journey embodies resilience and hope. She and her husband were diagnosed with HIV in 2003, and she lost him to it six years later. Despite the challenges, her spirit remained unbroken, driven by the need to educate her daughter. Financial struggles loomed until she connected with Cheyutha, finding support for her daughter's schooling and much-needed food and nutrition for herself and her child.
Through the program, Kalavati learned jute bag making, gaining both a skill and sustainable income. Today, she not only thrives but also gives back as an elected board member, sharing her experience and dedication. Her daughter, now educated and employed, sponsors another child, continuing the cycle of hope. Kalavati's story is a testament to the power of community and resilience, made possible through donors and supporters like you.
